BAE Systems Training Facility, Humberside Airport BAE Systems £5million investment at Humberside Airport not only provides apprenticeship courses for 60 students/year but more importantly, helps to create 150 permanent jobs within the avionics industry both at home and abroad. The training facility was developed to provide post 16 apprenticeships in Mechanical and Avionics to maintain the skilled work force of Royal Air Force bases in both the UK and around the world. Humber University Technical College students will be taken from colleges in the Humber region to gain their Continuing Airworthiness qualifications studying and training in state of the art facilities to specialise in, diagnostics of test equipment, running of engines, rectification, aircraft systems mechanical checks and avionics compliant inspections. Both practical and theoretical learning is provided under one roof to provide specialist training to obtain Level 3 NVQ’s with on site accommodation also provided nearby for the students. Although the portalised hanger was a very simple building to construct, understanding the brief and configuring the adjacencies were paramount in delivering a bespoke training facility that works on every level to enhances the apprentices learning experience.
