Daisy MIRC, Castle Hill Hospital

Project Description

Worlds first GE Healthcare Mini Cyclotron to be installed and will generate global media and medical interest.

Facility will generate radioactive isotope injections for PET CT diagnosis. Located next to and adjoining the existing PET CT Scanning facility at Castle Hill Hospital the products can be delivered for use as they are produced saving on any half-life decay of the isotopes. The new building will also house the Trust’s Radio Pharmacy which will relocate from Hull Royal Infirmary.

The MIRC is a prestigious development with only 3 Mini Cyclotron machines to be installed worldwide for the initial rollout, the Castle Hill site being the first facility in Europe to have one. Both the Daisy Appeal Charity and the Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust are very excited about this and are looking to make the most of this opportunity by providing a building that reflects the unique and prestigious purpose of the facility.

The unique appearance of the building will reflect its medical technology and incorporates a unique programmable LED external lighting system housed within a dark grey rainscreen cladding system that reflects the light signatures of the radioactive products that are produced.
